Advance Notice on ARC Rejoinders

Assessors Reports and the Rejoinder timeline - due early July.
The Assessors Reports on applications for the 2009 Discovery Project application round will be posted onto GAMS in early July (according to the Information for Applicants on the ARC website). The Grants Management Office (GMO) will advise applicants as soon as we are notified.

The turn around time for Rejoinders to Assessor Reports is VERY tight. The ARC tends to limit it to a maximum of two weeks.  In addition 5000 characters is the maximum length allowed (approximately 500 words).

Therefore, you need to be able to access GAMs and compose a well argued and concise Rejoinder within a very short timeframe at the start of July.

Please note:
  • Only the lead researcher who originated the Proposal may edit and submit a rejoinder. Other named participants may view the rejoinder but do not have editing access.
  • You will be able to submit a rejoinder even if you have not received any Assessment Reports.
Support from Research Strategy Office
This year the Research Strategy Office (RSO) will provide one-to-one assistance and strategic advice to  applicants who request assistance in preparing their rejoinders.  This assistance will include:
  • One-to-one interviews in the first week of the Rejoinder period with Alan Johnston (ex-ARC Executive Director of Biological Sciences & Biotechnology) Panel), Peter Baverstock (Faculty of Science), and three Strategic Development Managers from the RSO;
  • Some limited additional support within Faculties by ex-ARC College of Experts members; and
  • Email support throughout the Rejoinder period from RSO staff.
One-to-one interviews
Please contact Lorraine Pavitt on ext 55600 (or email l.pavitt@unsw.edu.au) by Tuesday 24 June, to arrange an interview appointment in the first week of the Rejoinder period. [NB: Lorraine works Monday, Tuesday and Thursday].

Ex-College of Experts assistance
Co-ordination of this support is currently being finalised by the RSO staff and contact details will be forwarded to all DP09 applicants by no later than 20 June 2008.

Stay in contact!
GMO and your fellow applicants will need to contact you once the Reports are available:
PLEASE
  • If your contact details will not be at UNSW, let your GMO Team Leader and your colleagues have the alternate contact details that will be valid for the last week in June and all of July.
  • Alert your fellow CIs and PIs to the timetable and make sure that you are also able to contact them at that time.
  • Make sure that wherever you are in the world you have web access to GAMs.
